  SANYO Semiconductor Co., Ltd released a new separately-excited step-down switching regulator IC, which can stably outputs low voltage (2.7V) and large current (8A) from DC57V input. The sample will be available from this October.

  Recently, voltage of the power supplies is made higher for achieving high efficiency in consideration of environment. However, since power supply system is complicated, for example, microcomputer and LSI need a low voltage for driving, it is necessary to convert a high input voltage into low. In addition, downsizing is also required. To address these demands, we developed TN8D01A and TN5D01A series, which improved the stability of the output voltage and enabled both large current and low output voltage. This series is most suitable for the applications that need a large current from a high input voltage, such as rechargeable batteries of the electrical bikes and projectors.

  This series outputs variable voltage ranging 2.7V to 24V. Only 1 device can support various output voltages, so it will contribute to your stock reduction, resource-saving and cost-down.

Comparison in Input Voltage & Output Current Range

  1. Stable output of 2.7V & 8A from 57V input (the industry's highest-level*1)
      So far, in order to stabilize the output voltage, a circuit has been needed for correcting the phase difference between the signal from the output voltage and the signal from the error amplifier when designing large-current low output voltage. Because this circuit is externally connected, it was difficult to obtain a stable output voltage at high current due to the influence of the surrounding noises. However, for this new series, the influence of the noise is greatly decreased by building the correcting circuit into the IC. So both large current and low output voltage are satisfied.

  2. Variable output: 2.7V to 24V, wide adjustable range
      In the power supply block, each part (Microcontroller, LSI, motor & etc.) requires different output voltage. Conventionally, DC-DC converter has been needed for each output voltage, so it made the stock control complex and the cost increased. This new variable output type TN8D01A/TN5D01A can cover various needs for output voltages ranging from 2.7V (for microcontroller) to 24V (for motor). In addition, the output voltage can be fine adjusted in consideration of the voltage drop due to the wiring resistance, so it can supply comparatively stable and proper voltages.

    Merits of Using Variable Output Type

  3. Parts count can be reduced by 50%*2 according to parts adopting method
      By adopting P-channel MOSFET as main switching transistor and housing it together with the control IC into 1 package, the parts so fat needed for the bootstrap circuit such as capacitors can be deleted. Moreover, by using the MOSFET with over-current detecting function, the large part RCS (Over-current detecting resistor) becomes unnecessary. Meanwhile, the power loss due to the detecting resistor can be suppressed because a minute current (1/5000 of that of the past) can be detected.
      As above-stated, by using TN8D01A/TN5D01A, the power supply circuit parts count can be reduced by about 50%, and the parts mounting area can be reduced to 1/3.
